Barton County Community College, also called BCC, is a comprehensive community college found in Great Bend, in the state of Kansas. The college serves the areas of Barton County, Stafford County, Ellsworth County, Rush and Russell Counties, Pawnee County, and Ellsworth County. The main campus is found northwest of Rice County, north of Highway 50. BCC has since changed its name to simply Barton Community College.
Barton County Community College was first established in 1965, when an election was held in Barton County, Kansas. The college was created to establish a local community college for the local student population. BCC features several programs and courses. These include degrees in Associate in Art, Associate in Science, Associate in General Studies, Associate in Applied Science, and several certificate programs.
BCC also offers programs with Transfer Emphasis, meaning these courses were designed for students who plan to transfer to an affiliated 4-year college or university and complete a 4-year degree. There are also Career Programs for students to learn and train in knowledge and skills that will prepare them to enter the workforce after graduation. BCC also offers several online programs and distance learning courses.
Barton County Community College features a variety of student activities including events, clubs, and organizations that students can participate in. Among the most popular clubs and organizations in the college includes the College Band, the Barton Choir, Theatre, the Barton Collegiate Farm Bureau, the Campus Christian Fellowship, and the Hispanic American Leadership Organization or HALO.
Barton Community College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The college competes in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference. The school fields teams in Baseball, Basketball, Cross country, Golf, Soccer, Tennis, Softball, Volleyball, and Track & Field. The school colors are Blue and White and the school nickname are the Cougars.
